Tecomate Seed, first in wildlife nutrition
Tecomate® Seed is a division of Barenbrug USA, one of the nations largest seed producers with research facilities worldwide. The seeds developed for Tecomate® are the results of an exhaustive, ongoing 20 year research project originated by noted deer manager Gary Schwarz and his friend and accomplished author and deer nutrition expert, David Morris. Schwarz, Morris and a small group of dedicated biologists have worked side-by-side with Barenbrug’s highly trained plant breeders with a single purpose in mind; to produce the most nutritious and palatable food plot plantings available today. Tecomate was formed and launched as a result of the phenomenal results achieved by this highly qualified mix of talent.
Tecomate® products are tested nationwide under virtually all soil and weather conditions and consistently produce results that many find simply astounding. Intensely managed Tecomate® properties in all parts of the US have resulted in body weight increases of 40 pounds or more on mature bucks and gains of up to 30 - 40 inches in antler mass.
Tecomate’s mission is to offer the resources, information and products to make this kind of success available to anyone willing to dedicate themselves to better, healthier deer on any property.
Chicory | |
|
Chicory is one of the most versatile, attractive and nutritious whitetail forages on the market. Close to a magic plant. Produces for years. Drought resistant. Handles the heaviest pressure. Great for blending, especially with clovers. Grows nationwide and in a wide variety of soil conditions.
Chicory lasts 2 to 5 years and is a beneficial forb that deer instinctively crave. We started using chicory in our mixtures over 10 years ago and introduced the wildlife world to the benefits of chicory as a food plot component. This highly digestible forb provides protein and energy to the diet while stimulating the rumen to work more efficiently. Chicory is adapted to most regions of the US. It has a deep tap root that contains stored carbohydrates which allow the plant to go dormant during extreme winter or summer stresses. Chicory is also very drought tolerant. The root contains many benefits that aid in alleviating digestive disorders. Deer will frequent chicory plots when overfeeding on corn and acorn crops. Chicory can be planted as a monostand or in combination with other species. Tecomate has an extensive chicory research program with multiple varieties to determine which are the most productive and desirable. We have now taken it one step further to include our proprietary Yellow Jacket seed coating containing Zeba. Chicory is ideal for use in all zones.

Alfa X-Treme™ | |
|
Alfa X-Treme™ contains patented Sunstra® Hybrid Alfalfa; proven to provide more digestibility and palatability than traditional alfalfa. Everybody knows that Alfalfa grows trophy bucks and naturally attracts deer; our new Alpha XTreme takes that to the next level. Nutritionally, alfalfa is excellent and performs better than White Clover under more arid conditions. The challenge with traditional alfalfa is that it has been developed for hay production and does not tolerate close and constant browse pressure.

Buckbeans™ | |
|
Buckbeans™ is a proprietary product exclusive to Tecomate through Heritage Seeds Australia, a Barenbrug subsidiary. The introduction of the burgundy bean species to the United States came as a result of a search for a perennial that could persist in the tropical and subtropical climates of the South. This plant has proven itself throughout the South because of its ability to survive for multiple years unattended in the extremes of zone 4. Because it is a perennial and its growth point is low, near the surface of the soil, it tolerates close and early deer browse pressure. Protein levels have tested near 30% with high digestibility. Deer love this perennial legume and quail feed on the seed.
It tolerates a range of pH and soil types making it adaptable to most areas with mild winters. Our Buckbeans tolerate low rates of glyphosate, and thrive from Florida pine plantations to the Texas brush country and can last from 2-5 years. Nothing holds deer in an area like a dependable high protein perennial food source. There truly is nothing else on the market that compares to Buckbeans. Seeds are coated with Yellow Jacket containing Zeba for quicker and better establishment. Ideal for zones 3 & 4.
Features:• Newest bean on the food plot scene • Perennial in the south, annual in the north • Vines along the ground, mature plants are 2-5 feet in diameter • Key component of a year-round program • Not vulnerable to early grazing pressure |

Bucks & Bosses® | |
|
Bucks & Bosses® is a unique mixture of proprietary White Clover, Red Clover, Birdsfoot Trefoil and Chicory. This product is the result of many satisfied turkey hunters reporting on their successful hunts using Monster Mix. We decided it was time to develop something specific for those looking to plant a dual purpose plot. In the spring this perennial mixture provides nutrition and attraction with quality forage for hens and “Boss Tom” turkeys. During the summer it will provide an excellent bugging area.
Throughout the spring and summer antler-growing season, bucks will utilize these plots as a major protein food source. Does and fawns also use these plots for optimum health and nutrition. Bucks & Bosses is tolerant of partial shade and may be successfully frost seeded in early spring making it an excellent food plot in hidden spots for those up close bow plots. To insure the best possible stand we have coated this mixture with our proprietary Yellow Jacket seed coating. Bucks & Bosses is ideal for zones 1, 2, & 3.

Deer Pea Plus™ | |
|
Deer Pea Plus™ is the result of Tecomate’s extensive experience with summer annual food plots. Recognizing the limitations of our existing summer annual product line, our regional agronomist went to work developing a mixture that would better meet the needs of hunters and managers in the Northeast and Midwest. The result is a combination of Ebony (a black-seeded pea, proprietary to Tecomate), Long Juvenile Soybean and Hybrid White Grain Milo. The Ebony establishes in cooler soil temperatures which creates a successful plot earlier in the season.
The Long Juvenile Soybeans are not sensitive to day length like most soybeans and may be planted early or late season. The soybean forage production is beneficial but the standing crop of beans provides excellent late season feed for deer and other game. White Grain Milo provides a quick establishing screening and trellising plant for the Ebony plants, and the hybrid grain heads provide a high energy feed for game birds and deer. This new mixture is ideal for zones 2, 3, & 4.
|
Features: • The longest growing pea/bean plot available • Survives cooler, early season planting for premium spring protein • Excellent choice for legume plots in the northeast and midwest • Produces beans 75 days after planting date • Contains a special variety of “Long Juvenile Soybean” that out-produces other bean varieties and matures with succulent beans late in the fall Seed Content: Ebony Peas, Long Juvenile Soybeans, Hybrid White Grain Milo |

Lablab™ | |
| Lablab™ was originally introduced to the United States from Australia by Dr. Gary Schwarz. Years of cooperative studies with the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute proved that Lablab could significantly increase the size of deer antlers and body mass while increasing the total carrying capacity of the land. Lablab consistently out performs all other annual legumes for the production of highly digestible summer protein. It is proven to perform under the harshest of growing conditions. Scientifically proven to add an unprecedented 20 to 40 inches of antler mass to mature bucks! These phenomenal results are due to the highly digestible protein (up to 38%) and ideal 2:1 Ca/P ratio. Lablab is a superior summer legume that is well adapted to the tropical and sub-tropical climates. It is extremely heat and drought tolerant and requires a soil temperature greater than 68 degrees Fahrenheit for quick growth. Lablab is not suitable for small unprotected plots. This is the phenomenon that started people talking about the bucks on the Tecomate Ranch. Ideal for zones 3 & 4. | |
Features:• Scientifically proven to add 20 to 40 inches of antler mass to mature bucks • Most nutritious plant we’ve ever tested • Nothing better for bigger racks • Unsurpassed antler-growing phosphorous • Ultimate warm season “management plot” • Capable of greatly increasing carrying capacity • Drought, insect & disease resistant • Fast growing/tremendous production • Grows anywhere soybeans & cowpeas are grown • Craved by deer |

Lablab Plus™ | |
|
Lablab Plus™ is an ingenious mixture of Lablab beans, Ebony peas and White Grain Milo and offers the “triple threat” of whitetail nutrition: high protein, fat and carbohydrates. Lablab is a proven, stand alone summer annual food plot for the most hot and arid of growing conditions. However, as the Tecomate Seed business evolved we put our agronomist to work on developing a mixture that could be established in smaller plots. White Grain Milo provides a quick establishing shelter and trellising plant for the Lablab and Ebony plants.
The hybrid grain heads provide a high energy feed for game birds and deer once they reach maturity. The Ebony (black-seeded pea, proprietary to Tecomate) is an indeterminate seeder, meaning it produces bushels of highly desirable and nutritious peas while it continues to produce tons of high quality forage. Ebony has also been noted to establish quicker in cooler soil temperatures than Lablab, which aids in plant protection. This plot may be left standing throughout the fall to provide nutrition and attraction in the bow and rifle seasons. Ideal for zones 3 & 4.
|
Features: • Grain sorghum (milo) shelters young Lablab plants • Offers mature sorghum grain heads and dried beans into winter • Works on smaller plots where Lablab would be subject to early grazing pressure • Grows anywhere cowpeas/soybeans are grown • Provides cover for daytime feeding activity • Excellent choice in southern areas where grain sorghum is a common plot choice |
Planting Time: All Zones: SpringSpring ground temp needs to be above 68°F Zones 2, 3, & 4: Fall Planting Depth: 1 to 2 inches Seeding Rate: 22 lbs/acre Fertilizer: Use a high phosphorous fertilizer and apply at 200 to 300 lbs/acre |

Ultra Forage™ | |
| Ultra Forage™ contains the Hybrid Forage Brassica variety T-Raptor, Clover and Chicory. This mixture combines a New Zealand brassica with Clover and Chicory for a plot that starts attracting and feeding deer before the frost. T-Raptor establishes quickly and starts attracting deer quicker than other less palatable brassicas, rape or kale. Plus, it produces a bulb that deer will readily dig up for late season energy. T-Raptor has been University tested and is proven to be significantly higher in production than other brassica plants. The annual clovers in Ultra Forage establish quickly and are very palatable to deer providing them with a significant source of protein and early season attraction. The Chicory is a good companion crop and will provide spring nutrition after the T-Raptor has been consumed. For better establishment the Clovers and Chicory are coated with our proprietary Yellow Jacket seed coating containing Zeba. Ultra Forage grows well and is widely used in zone 3, however, it is ideal in zones 1 & 2. | |
|
Features: • Extremely fast initial growth • Ideal for small, high-use plots • Hybrid turnip offers forage and bulbs • Follows up with chicory and clover into spring • Peak attraction during hunting season |
