NY Crossbow Legislation Introduced

A measure introduced in the New York State Assembly would give the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) the authority to regulate crossbow and to determine the seasons they would be utilized.

The bill, A00283, filed by Assemblyman Sean Ryan, D-Buffalo, mirrors a crossbow hunting bill filed in the state Senate by Sen. Patrick Gallivan, R-Elma.

A late session veto in December by Gov. Andrew Cuomo killed a crossbow bill authored by Assemblyman Robert Sweeney, D-Lindenhurst, that would have continued permitting crossbows only during the regular firearms and late muzzleloading season and not as part of the general archery-hunting seasons. That bill was opposed by crossbow proponents and opposed by the New York Bowhunter.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation has not taken a position on the bills.

crossbow is alot of fun,my kids are into it. its safe,to harvest an animal is the same distance as a compound bow hunter. its a myth the crossbow travels hundreds of yards. its a one shot deal, inlike the compound which you could load quicker if you had to argue a point.i hope n.y legalizes it again, great fun for all-young,old,shoulder injuries, bad back.
