The Connecticut House of Representatives on May 23 approved a limited measure that will permit deer hunting on Sundays with a bow and arrow on private land.

The measure passed by a definitive 107-to-19 margin with 24 members absent. All 19 nay votes were cast by Democrat House members.

The bill is supported by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Under the measure, hunting may only be done by licensed bowhunters, who are required to complete an IBEP bowhunter safety course. It also requires bowhunters to obtain written permission by landowners that must be carried at all times.

The measure now heads to the state Senate.

According to the Coalition to Lift State Bans on Sunday Hunting, 11 states currently prohibit Sunday hunting to some degree, most for long-standing religious reasons, including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

Supporters refer to our state often and use the bogus sign in displayed this "article'. There is no authority given to the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission over hunting.Hunting is overseen by the PA Game Commission. There are no signs like this in Pennsylvania - Except where they appear in articles.

Same thing happened last year but the politicians in the Senate refuse to call the bill for a vote. If you're in CT call your senator and demand they call the bill

Finally! Connecticut has this law on the books for "long standing religious reasons" but they allow same sex marriage and abortion. What about the poor folks who attend church on Saturdays? They have been missing the whole weekend for years. :) The liberals won the abortion and gay marriage battles so the conservatives, if there are any in Connecticut, pass a bow hunting bill. Great. That's moving us in the right direction.

Re: Connecticut Sunday Bowhunting Bill Passes House

My religion requires that I spend all Sundays during the fall hunting. Besides that here in CO, we go hunting even on Christmas!

Re: Connecticut Sunday Bowhunting Bill Passes House

It's ridiculous & absurd that any government can ban a legally sanction activity on a specific day of the week on privately owned property. The article above on this proposed legislation is incorrect. A few of the states mentioned in the article that do not allow Sunday hunting is incorrect!! For instance NJ does allow it for over 2 years now! Hello is anyone out there?? The money sportsman put into CT and the high deer densities all justify Sunday hunting. Especially on private property!!!
